The castle was started around 1085 and St Laurence’s church is one of England's finest churches and is a member of the Greater Churches Group. Broad Street is famous for its fine Georgian houses and timber framed buildings and is "guarded" at the bottom by the last remaining medieval town gate.

In the Bull Ring is The Feathers hotel, an imposing timber framed building, and possibly the most photographed hotel in the UK.

The vintage car and beer festival take place in the second weekend in May and the main Ludlow Food Festival is held on the second weekend in September.

In the last week of June and first week of July there is a fringe festival with jazz, comedy, plays, classical music and folk.
