Description

ARDNAMURCHAN is the most western point of mainland Scotland. It is a peninsula (meaning "almost an island") between Mull and Skye, enjoying magical views, hidden bays, sunsets over the sea and the relaxing air of the Hebrides ... remote but never cut off.

At Ockle, on the north coast of Ardnamurchan, we have three self catering cottages. All are modernised croft houses with Scottish Tourist Board grading. Come and visit Ockle and experience the breathtaking beauty of Ardnamurchan, with abundant flora and fauna, hidden bays, magnificent views of the Inner Hebrides, unforgettable sunsets over the sea and, above all, peace and tranquillity. Our 3 cottages are fully equipped and sited in their own gardens on a working farm.

Tigh Dochie is a small secluded bungalow with kitchen, lounge/dining room, bathroom and 2 bedrooms.

Burnside is a recently modernised croft house on the hillside above a wooded burn. Accommodation includes a kitchen/dining room, bathroom, lounge and 2 bedrooms.Burnside looks out over the burn towards the hills, while the garden has lovely views to the sea.

Sruthan Ruadh has 1 bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, a mezzanine level with large lounge and patio, and 2 bedrooms (1 en suite) on the upper floor. Its large garden is ideal for children and dogs to play in. Sruthan Ruadh .Mini breaks out of Season from £120 (3 days).

All our houses are fully equipped with washing machine, dryer, freezer, microwave, gas cooker, satellite TV, payphone, electric heating and private water supply. Electricity is charged at cost. Linen (bottom sheet, duvet cover, pillow slips, hand and bath towels), if required, is charged at £6.50 per person.

There is no internet service at Ockle, but if you can't relax without your daily email fix there's a business facility at Kilchoan Community Centre.

Sleeping Arrangements

Tigh Dochie - has two bedrooms and makes this a very practical unit for four people.

Burnside Cottage - has two bedrooms upstairs and comfortably sleeps four people.

Sruthan Ruadh - has a twin-bedded ground floor bedroom, with two further bedrooms (one en-suite) upstairs; this cottage can accommodate six.

The Nàdurra Centre, winner of three prestige awards -Formerly known as the Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre, Nàdurra provides visitors with an introduction to the breathtaking variety of flora and fauna to be found in this beautiful corner of Scotland.

Other Information

Mingary Castle - dates back to the thirteenth century and may be much older - there is some evidence, not least from the name, that the Vikings fortified the site.

Neolithic Heart of Orkney, one of the most important Neolithic sites in Western Europe.

The Antonine Wall in central Scotland. Built around 140 AD, the ancient wall runs for 60 km from Old Kilpatrick on the north side of the River Clyde to Bo’ness on the Firth of Forth.
